40 Skating Videos

Here’s a playlist of 40 pretty random skating (as in sidewalk surfing) videos on YouTube. I never searched systematically. Obviously I find 60s and longboard films the most interesting, you don’t have to turn down the sound as much as with some of the hectic stuff.

Hawaii 1916 Footage

Nice vintage dutch footage of Hawai’i with ukulele/vocal/fiddle music. At the end there’s even some surfing, people were having fun and sharing waves.

I Just Joined Fair Play for Creators

quote form the campaign site:

Fair Play for Creators is an online forum set up by PRS for Music so that creators everywhere can publicly demonstrate their concern over the way their work is treated by online businesses.

Fair Play for Creators was established after Internet-giant, Google, made the decision to remove some music content from YouTube.

Google’s decision was made because it didn’t want to pay the going rate for music, to the creators of that music, when it’s used on YouTube.

Music creators rely on receiving royalties whenever and wherever their work is used. Royalties are vital in nurturing creative music talent. They make sure music creators are rewarded for their creativity in the same way any other person would be in their work.

Fair Play for Creators believes that fans should have access to the music they love, and that the work of music creators should be paid for by the online businesses who benefit from its use.

If you’re not happy for us to use your comments on this site, please uncheck the first box underneath the comments box.

Let’s help the creators keep on creating.

Pop Surf Culture with
The Boardwalkers

Domenic Priore writes:

On Saturday @ 6, come by Stories Book Store, 1716 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California (Echo Park, just South of Alvarado) to hear surf instrumental combo The Boardwalkers live and in person.

They’ll be playing between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Stories for a book event based around my new one with Brian Chidester, ‘Pop Surf Culture: Music, Design, Film and Fashion from the Bohemian Surf Boom.’

Pop Surf Culture

Several television monitors around the shop will be screening a wide variety of pre-1970 surfing movies as background eye candy (and for Pop effect) as The Boardwalkers play, and we meet, greet and sign books.
