quote: … Bob’s love of music eventually attracted others to him and a band was formed – The Astronauts. As a local group they played at 3.2 beer establishments near CU and many sock hops, armory dances, and grange halls in and around Colorado and surrounding states. The Astronauts became national and international recording and performing stars by impressing an RCA Victor Records’ executive during a 1962 performance at the Tulagi nightclub and dance hall on 13th Street in the Hill area. In 1963 their first of seven record albums came out which sold well to both national and international audiences. The group had the number one hit in Japan during 1964-65.
